Okay so, I agree that pollution and global warming are a problem. Boo the use of fossil fuels etc… But I love my car. I love my car so very much.
Just after Christmas 2010 I brought my very first car. Her name is Arabella. Mostly I call her Bells.
I have had my restricted licence for over ten years, basically I moved out of home and then had no access to a car – except sporadically – for a long long time. And public transport in my city really is quite good. I complain about it often, and buses are often a bit late, also they decided to put fares up by $0.50 because a smaller jump would have been difficult for the drivers to cope with! But really it is not that bad.
But the other day I went to town to run a couple of errands. The whole thing took me about an hour. Previously an hour would have been spent walking to and from the bus stops, waiting for the bus and riding the bus if I was lucky. Just being able to leave when I want, park where I want (within reason), take the exact route I want is so much fun. Personal mobility for the win!
I will shortly be contacting the AA (Automobile Association) for a driving lesson, to see if I could get my full licence or what I need to work on. And then I will have personal mobility and the ability to take passengers.
