Fuses! I can fix them!
Apr. 25th, 2012 03:06 pmSo last night in a moment of foolishness, I started the dryer going, left the dehumidifier running, and then put the kettle on and put a piece of toast in the toaster. The fuse then blew. Whoops said I, and went to investigate the fuse box, wondering how one changes fuses.
The last people had left some fuse wire in the bottom of the box, I found the blown fuse, inserted new fuse wire and went to put the kettle on to test the new fuse wire. It blew again. To the internet!
The internet told me that I had not twisted the wire in quite right. I twisted the wire properly and tried the kettle. Yay! Then I set the dryer running to finish off the load. It worked. Yay! Then once the dryer had finished I went back to have a piece of toast. It blew. Maybe the toaster is bad, I mused. To the internet!
The internet told me that maybe the toaster had gone bad, but maybe I had the wrong grade of fuse wire, so today we went to Bunnings and brought more fuse wire. The wire the last people left in the fuse box appears to be 5amp wire, and the fuse should have 15amp wire, which it now does. As well as the wrong grade of fuse wire, they left a working lighter in the fuse box for baffling reasons. That is the third lighter found in a weird place so far. Maybe the last people were closet pyromaniacs?
I am now enjoying a hot drink from the working kettle \o/ and then will shortly go and clean all the things.
